Wowll I'm glad its in the lower mainland cause I'm going to win it. I can hardly wait.
I have wanted to do a side garden for a long time. Wish me luck. Besides all you out of towners, encourage your area garden shops to do the same. Have a great day and enjoy the sun.Wish me luck.

As usual; if you don't live in the "big smoke" you can't participate! I understand the sponsors concern about having to travel for a "freebie" but it seems such a shame. There are so many enthusiastic gardeners around the province who would also enjoy trying to win this blessing. I'm from Vancouver Island; like Victorians, not so very far away. I was very interested until I saw the fateful "Lower Mainland " limitation. I hope that the article about this includes lots of info on plant choices ,planning ect. for those of us who fly by the seat of our pants.

It seems that the only gardeners that count are the ones in the Lower Mainland....I am in Prince Rupert where it seems that no contractor wants to even think of bringing their goods too.....it's a shame because we live in Beautiful British Columbia.....sigh...back to the moss and the deer!

The contest suppliers operate in the Lower Mainland. Who's going to pay for their costs in providing the prize to a winner outside this area! Use common sense, readers!!

Victoria is know as the City of Gardens. However, that is not to say that other cities in the province have beautiful gardens - canadian gardening magazines prove that. However, the competition should not be limited specifically to the lower mainland.

Wow, what a bunch of whiners. The tradespeople and suppliers are doing this for FREE to get more business in the lower Mainland, it is only marketing tool. Just remember you are not dealing with the CRIME and Noise that we put up with.

I too am also disappointed it is only available on the Lower Mainland. There is also a competition in GardenWise on page 18 to win a copy of Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love, which I can't find on your website.

I'm in Victoria and was also first excited and then very disappointed that living in the "City of Gardens" didn't help me be eligible for this contest.

I also agree with everyone. It should be available to everyone - not just those within driving distance of Surrey. I subscribe to your magazine and am disappointed that I cannot enter the contest.

After I read the Rules on this contest I went ... ahhh! Lower Mainland only :( It is a lovely looking patio, would look super in my backyard. There will be other sponsors that include the rest of British Columbia or better yet run a contest that excludes the Lower Mainland and is only for the rest of us. :D I have every faith in the editors of GardenWise magazine!

Comment by Anonymous, March 17, 2009 at 11:58

Come on...why advertise so largely if it is restricted to lower mainland residents only?!! I am in Kelowna. I read the contest and got all excited...over nothing as it turns.
